How to Calculate Upgrade Time with Buffs?

In this guide, I will explain how you can calculate the remaining time for your building upgrades and research when buffs are active.

The formula for calculating the final upgrade or research time is:

Final Upgrade Time = (Original Time ÷ (1 + Minister Buff + Personal Buff)) − Time Reduction

Let’s take a building upgrade as an example.

Example: Warrior Statue Upgrade

For this example, we will use the Warrior Statue upgrade.

Step 1: Find the Original Time

First, find the Original Time required for the upgrade. You can find this time above the upgrade button in the upgrade menu.

In this example, the original upgrade time is:

6 days, 12 hours, 19 minutes, and 41 seconds

Since our formula uses minutes, we need to convert the entire duration into minutes.

Original Time = 9,379 minutes

Step 2: Find Your Minister Buff

Next, check whether you have any active Minister buffs. If you don’t have any active Minister buff, simply use 0%.

To check your Minister buffs:

  1. Click your Profile icon.
  2. Click the magnifying glass icon next to your server number.
  3. Check the Minister buffs that are currently active.
  4. Note the value of the relevant buff.

For example, the Minister of Construction provides:

  • 50% Construction Speed
  • 25% Research Speed

Because our example is a building upgrade, we will use the 50% Construction Speed buff.

The percentage needs to be converted into a decimal before using it in the formula.

50% = 0.50

Step 3: Find Your Personal Buff and Time Reduction

Next, we need to find your Personal Buff and Time Reduction.

To find these:

  1. Go to your Sanctuary in your territory.
  2. Click Shield.
  3. Open the Economy section.
  4. Scroll down until you see:
    • Building Construction Speed
    • Free Construction Speedup

These two values are used differently in the formula:

  • Building Construction Speed = Personal Buff
  • Free Construction Speedup = Time Reduction

In this example:

Personal Buff = 31.50%

Convert the percentage into a decimal:

31.50% = 0.315

The Free Construction Speedup is:

4,440 seconds

Since the formula uses minutes, convert the time reduction from seconds to minutes:

4,440 ÷ 60 = 74 minutes

Therefore:

  • Original Time = 9,379 minutes
  • Minister Buff = 0.50
  • Personal Buff = 0.315
  • Time Reduction = 74 minutes

Step 4: Put Everything into the Formula

Now we can substitute all of our values into the formula:

Final Upgrade Time = (9,379 ÷ (1 + 0.50 + 0.315)) − 74

Final Upgrade Time = (9,379 ÷ 1.815) − 74

Final Upgrade Time ≈ 5,168.04 − 74

Final Upgrade Time ≈ 5,094.04 minutes

So, with the 50% Minister Construction Speed buff, 31.50% Personal Construction Speed buff, and 4,440 seconds of Free Construction Speedup, the final upgrade time is approximately:

5,094 minutes or 84.9 hours or 3 days, 12 hours, 54 minutes
